Like the workspace tool, Competitor Discovery in reports gives you the visibility of the top 10 competitors, across your chosen Search Term Groups and Search Engines.

This is not a period comparison – the data will represent the scores of the last period in the report date range. This makes it a particularly useful component in recurring reports, giving you regular insight into your competitors and their performance for the same search terms as yours.

Setup

To add the component to a report from the setup wizard:

  • Select the desired Workspace

  • Select the Search Term Groups

  • Select the Search Engine

  • Include SERP features - the SERP features included cannot be edited here as the Visibility Index is calculated ahead of time. You can hover on the arrow to see which SERP features will be included

  • Additional Option: include Top Position Summary Components

  • Add Notes if applicable

  • Click Submit to add the component to the report

Note: No SERP features are displayed in the outputs but used to determine each competitor's score

Outputs

Like the workspace tool, Competitor Discovery in reports is broken down into 3 parts:

  • Visibility Index Score of each competitor

  • Search Position Breakdown - the percentage of terms in the selected search term groups occupying which positions for each site

  • Top 10 Sites by Visibility

The Top 10 Sites by visibility is presented as a table with the following columns:

  • Site URL

  • Appeared in - how many searches the site appeared in

  • Visibility Score

  • Average Position - the site’s average position over the reporting period

If selected during setup, the Top Position Summary provides the same information as the Site Position Summary component, but for each site in the Top 10 Sites by Visibility. This includes for each site:

  • Breakdown as seen in the Top 10 Sites by Visibility table with the option to chart

  • Overall Position Breakdown - the circular chart on the left is the same breakdown as the site’s at the top of the Competitor Discovery component

  • Search Term Group Position Breakdown - the chart on the right is a further drill-down of the site’s position by search term group

  • The key at the bottom helps to identify what percentage of terms positioned in which positions

Next Action Steps

Next to each site, the 3 icons will take you to the following tools
