How does a Comparison Index work?

A Visibility Index is a collection of Sites compared on the same searches (Search Term Groups + Search Engines).

This produces overall visibility scores, which reflect the average visibility of those Sites on all the searches.

The Visibility Index also shows the Site with the highest gains, and the biggest falls, along with the Site with the most volatility

A Comparison Index compares multiple sites over specified Search Term Groups. This differs from a Performance Index as this shows how a market is performing, without having a sense of self in the Index.

Key Features

Dashboard View

Index scores

The first thing you will see in your Comparison Index is the performance of each site over the index period.

Each site is given a score based on:

  • The current visibility index score

  • Volatility score

  • Movement score

You can view the performance of each site on the chart by clicking the chart icon.

Recent Insights

Here you can explore any insights that have been created by you or any other users on the index.

Top Rising, Falling and Volatile

This is a view of the sites who have performed the best, had the biggest drops and have had the most volatility over the index period.

You can click on the chart icon to explore these further.

Index Score Table

The index score table is much like the index scores above but it allows you to drill down into how each site is performing across each Search Term Group and Search Engine.

On this table, you can compare each sites previous index score to its current score, movement and volatility.

Clicking the icons in the Actions column allows you to view performance over time on the chart.

Index Insights

This is a list of all the insights that have been created within the index. Click the explore icon to be taken to the insight.

Clicking on the dropdown menu will open up the insight details. You can choose to subscribe to the insight from here.

Chart View

By clicking the chart icons across the index, you can view performance across individual dates in the period.

Here you will see a timeline for each set of data and track performance. You can choose to add SERP Features, filter specific data and change the date range.

Any information you want to save here can be done by using the "Save as insight" button.

Date Picker

Clicking on the Date Picker allows you to change the date range on the chart to that of your choosing.

Filters

Use the filter to choose what data will show on the chart. Click the check boxes to add and remove

Hovering over the plot points on the chart will tell you the score on that particular date.

Table View

Underneath the chart, you will see the data in Table form. By clicking the check boxes you can add and remove data sources on the chart.

The table is comprised of:

  • Plot (Site or Search Term Group showed on the chart)

  • Start score (Score at the start of the date range)

  • End Score (Score at the end of the date range)

  • Movement (Movement of the score during the period)

Selecting the icon on the Actions column will allow you to explore the data on Position Explorer Table

Next Step Actions

At the top right of the Index page you will see a number of next step action:

  • Chart - You can use this to view changes over the index period for each site

  • Add to favourite - this will appear in your dashboard
