How does a Comparison Index work?

A Visibility Index is a collection of Sites compared on the same searches (Search Term Groups + Search Engines).

This produces overall visibility scores, which reflect the average visibility of those Sites on all the searches.

The Visibility Index also shows the Site with the highest gains, and the biggest falls, along with the Site with the most volatility

A Comparison Index compares multiple sites over specified Search Term Groups. This differs from a Performance Index as this shows how a market is performing, without having a sense of self in the Index.

Where to find Comparison Indexes

You can find all of your Performance, comparison and Dashboard indexes on the visibility index page, found in the performance section of the navigation.

Key Features

Index scores

From the Visibility Index list page, click the '+' icon to reveal the performance of each site over the index period.

Each site is given a score based on:

  • The current visibility index score

  • Volatility score

  • Movement score

You can view the performance of each site on the chart by clicking the chart icon.

Recent Insights

Here you can explore any insights that have been created by you or any other users on the index.

Rising, Falling and Volatile

This is a view of the sites that have performed the best, had the biggest drops and have had the most volatility over the index period.

You can click on the chart icon to explore these further.


Chart View

By clicking the comparison index name, you can view performance across individual dates in the period.

Here you will see a timeline for each set of data and track performance. You can choose to add SERP Features, filter specific data and change the date range.

Any information you want to save here can be done by using the "Save as insight" button.

Date Picker

Clicking on the Date Picker allows you to change the date range on the chart to that of your choosing.

Filters

Use the filter to choose what data will show on the chart. Click the check boxes to add and remove

Hovering over the plot points on the chart will tell you the score on that particular date.


Table View

Underneath the chart, you will see the data in Table form. By clicking the check boxes you can add and remove data sources on the chart.

The table is comprised of:

  • Plot (Site or Search Term Group showed on the chart)

  • Start score (Score at the start of the date range)

  • End Score (Score at the end of the date range)

  • Movement (Movement of the score during the period)

Selecting an icon on the Actions column will allow you to explore the data in different Pi tools
