Brand Entities is the area to manage all entities related to your and your competitors' brands and sites in Pi Datametrics. Use this area to add the sites and brands you want to analyse across standard search and LLM conversations.
Sites
A Site is a collection of domains and URLs. It is up to you to define, but a Site could be:
A root domain (including all subdomains). E.g. example.com
A subdomain. E.g. shop.example.com or www.example.com
A single social media asset or a collection of social media assets. E.g. facebook.com/pi.user
A directory level within a site structure. E.g. example.com/page
It can be made up of one or more paths and can have a customised label.
Pi doesn't track sites; it analyses their performance within the collected data from tracked search terms.
Competitor Sites / My Sites
Sites on Pi Datametrics are separated into 2 main categories :
Competitor Sites – URLs that your My Sites will likely compete within the SERPs. These can be found by using Competitor Discovery.
My Sites – Assets you have authority over (This could be the main website, partners, social media pages, etc.).
Brand rules
Brands can appear in different ways across conversational search results, both in how they are represented and how they are referred to. A brand can have several distinct forms of visibility:
Brand mention — the brand is named in the generated answer, perhaps as an example, alternative or recommendation.
Citation — a page belonging to the brand is used as a source supporting the answer.
Mention + citation — the brand is discussed and its own content is cited.
Third-party representation — the brand is mentioned, but the information comes from another website, such as a publisher, review site or industry source.
The name used to refer to a brand can also vary. For example, a brand called Acme might appear as Acme Technologies, Acme Tech, ACME or an acronym such as AT.
Brand Entities lets you define these variations so that different references to the same brand can be grouped and analysed as a single entity.
How it appears in a response | Why |
Acme | Standard/common brand name |
Acme Technologies | Longer company name |
Acme Technologies Ltd | Full legal/company name |
ACME | Different capitalisation |
Acme Tech | Shortened version |
AT | Acronym sometimes used for the brand |
Acme’s | Possessive form |
Acme Technology | Slight variation of the company name |
The brand rules in Brand entities allow you to assign different criteria to each variation:
Matches exactly - includes all results with the exact match
Contains - includes results that contain this variation
Does not contain - excludes results that contain this variation. Useful for brands that have similar names, or a name is included in the spelling of another brand, etc. 'Does not contain' will always override exact and contains matches.
How to add a Brand Entity
From the Brand entities page, click the blue 'Add brand' button:
From here, add:

Bulk Site Entry
Use this option to copy and paste a list of my or competitor sites into the input box. This will separate the sites into individual lines for input similar to the ‘Add Sites’ tab. The next page provides the option to label the sites and add or remove multiple URLs to track for a particular site:
Tags
Tags help you categorise the entities. This will help you identify them when using other tools in Pi that can have sites/entities selected for analysis. Entities can have multiple tags to be in multiple groups:
Actions
Use Actions to edit or delete a brand:
Alternatively, use the tick boxes and 'Apply selection to' option to bulk delete brands:
