How to Identify Your Best and Worst Performing Content Using Pi

Understanding which content is performing well and which needs improvement is crucial for optimizing your site’s visibility. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to use Pi’s Visibility Indexes and the Content Explorer Table to analyze your site’s rankings and pinpoint areas for improvement.

Use Visibility Indexes to Assess Overall Rankings

Visibility indexes provide an overview of how visible your site is based on a collection of search terms. This is a great starting point for analyzing your site’s rankings over time.

Select an Index – Choose the visibility index you want to analyze.

Filter by Site – If multiple competitors are included, refine the view by selecting your site from the "Sites" menu at the top.

Adjust the Time Frame – To analyse long-term trends, set the time period to the last 12 months.

Enable SERP Features – Toggle this option to include search engine result page (SERP) features for a more comprehensive view.

At this stage, you’ll be able to identify overall visibility trends. For example, if most groups have gained visibility except for specific categories, further investigation is required.

Analyze Content Performance in the Content Explorer Table

To examine why a specific content category has lost visibility, use the Content Explorer Table:

  1. Open the Table – Click on the actions column next to the relevant search term group

  1. Select a Search Engine – If your index tracks multiple search engines, choose the one you want to analyze.

Sort by Top Position – This allows you to see which pieces of content have the lowest ranking positions.

Apply a Secondary Dimension – This enables you to view all search terms that your site is ranking for.

Use Filters – Add filters for the specific search term group and relevant SERP features to analyse ranking performance.

Identify Internal Conflicts – Toggle the table by Search Term to see if multiple URLs from your site are competing for the same keyword, which could indicate internal conflict.

By following these steps, you can effectively determine which content is underperforming and why. This insight allows you to take strategic action—such as updating content, optimising keywords, or consolidating conflicting pages—to improve rankings and overall site visibility.
