How to evaluate the impact of an algorithm update

Understand how to use Pi's tools to evaluate the impact of an algorithm update

Step 1 - Visibility Index

Choose the performance index you want to analyse from the visibility index list:

Here, you can look at how the algorithm update has impacted the industry in general or any site in particular.

We can see that the May 2022 core algorithm update impacted the selected site’s visibility, gaining 3.1 points:

To drill down further into Asos’s visibility to see if any categories were impacted more than others, click on the site step above the chart and select the site from the pop-up:

Using the date picker to select the days immediately before and after the update, you can see which categories were affected:

Here we can see that most categories were affected:

Step 2 - Competitor Discovery

After looking at the Visibility Index use Competitor Discovery to see if the update has impacted the visibility of any competitors that are not tracking in the visibility index:

Compare any date before the update with any dates after the update and see the page one movement for the top sites, but also scroll down and see whether new sites are appearing in the top 20 that weren't there before.

Step 3 - SERP Feature Radar

Use the SERP Feature Radar to see whether the new algorithm update

has brought about any changes in terms of the SERP landscape.

Select a week before the update and compare it with the week after:
