How to connect to the Pi MCP in ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, go to Plugins from the menu:

Click 'Add' then select 'Add custom MCP server':

Next:

  • Give the custom MCP a name and an optional description

  • Connection:

  • Tick the 'I Understand and want to continue' box

  • Click 'Create as a plugin'

At the following pop-up, click 'Continue to MCP for Pi Datametrics':

You will then be redirected to a Pi Datametrics permissions screen. ChatGPT will be allowed to:

  • View your basic profile: Share your name, email address and Pi user ID with this application.

  • Read your Pi Datametrics data: Read data available to your Pi account through the API. Your existing permissions still apply.

  • Use Pi Datametrics tools: Let this application use Pi Datametrics tools on your behalf, within your existing account and workspace permissions.

  • Keep this application connected: Allow it to renew access without asking you to sign in again, including when you are not using it.

Click 'Allow access':

Your ChatGPT account is now connected to the Pi MCP.


How to connect to the Pi MCP in Claude

In Claude, go to 'Customize':

Go to 'Connectors', then click '+ Add' and 'Add custom connector':

First:

Next, ensure Authentication is set to 'Sign in now' and the OAuth client is 'Register automatically ', and click 'Add':

You may receive a notice saying you are not connected to the MCP yet. Click 'Connect':

You will then be redirected to a Pi Datametrics permissions screen. Claude will be allowed to:

  • View your basic profile: Share your name, email address and Pi user ID with this application.

  • Read your Pi Datametrics data: Read data available to your Pi account through the API. Your existing permissions still apply.

  • Use Pi Datametrics tools: Let this application use Pi Datametrics tools on your behalf, within your existing account and workspace permissions.

  • Keep this application connected: Allow it to renew access without asking you to sign in again, including when you are not using it.

Click 'Allow access':

You'll then be taken back to Claude, where you'll see the MCP and it's tool permissions:
