Using AI Authority Index

Learn how to use the AI Authority Index to benchmark your brand against competitors, track performance over time and investigate the metrics behind your Authority Score.

Written by Dex McPake

The AI Authority Index lets you benchmark your brand's AI Authority against competitors and investigate the component metrics behind your score.

Use the tool to compare brands, monitor performance over time and investigate Doorways, Sentiment, Owned Mentions and Earned Mentions across the conversations you're tracking.

This guide explains how to configure the AI Authority Index and use each of its main views.

Workspace

Select the workspace containing the data you want to analyse.

AI Model

Choose the AI model you want to investigate.

Groups

Select the groups you want to include in your analysis. This lets you focus the AI Authority Index on the relevant areas within your selected workspace.

Once you've made your selections, click Explore to load the data.

Authority score vs. competitors

The Authority score vs. competitors section provides the headline view of your primary brand's Authority Score and selected comparison brands.

Authority Score

The headline percentage shows the Authority Score for your primary brand based on your current selections. Use this as the starting point for your analysis before looking at the competitive comparison and component metrics. For more detail on how Authority Score is calculated and what it represents, see AI Authority Score.

Benchmark

Use the Benchmark selector to change the benchmark used for your primary brand.

This allows you to put the headline score into competitive context rather than viewing it in isolation.

Authority Score over time

The chart shows Authority Score over time for your primary brand and selected comparison brands. Use it to see how performance has changed across the reporting period and compare movement between brands.

WoW, MoM and YoY

The summary cards show changes across different reporting periods:

  • WoW — week over week

  • MoM — month over month

  • YoY — year over year

These give you a quick view of how the primary brand's Authority Score has changed over time.

Brand comparison table

The table beneath the chart shows the Authority Score and movement metrics for the brands included in your analysis.

Use the table to compare the primary brand with the selected comparison brands in one view.

Component metrics

The Component metrics section lets you investigate the individual metrics behind the Authority Score.

Use the tabs at the top of the section to switch between:

Doorways
How often AI responses provide a path to your brand's wider digital ecosystem.

Sentiment
How positively or negatively your brand is represented in AI-generated responses.

Owned Mentions
Brand mentions originating from your owned content.

Earned Mentions
Brand mentions originating from sources beyond your owned content.

Compare component metrics

Selecting a component updates the section to show performance for that metric.

The headline value on the left shows the result for your primary brand, with the comparison underneath providing context against the selected comparison brand.

The chart shows how the selected component has changed over time for the brands included in your analysis.

Monitor changes over time

Use WoW, MoM and YoY to see how the selected component has changed across different reporting periods. The table beneath the chart shows the component metric and movement values for each brand included in the analysis. Switch between the four component tabs to compare different areas of performance without changing your selected dataset.

Brand analysis

The Brand analysis section lets you focus on an individual brand and investigate its component metrics across your conversations.

Select a brand

Use the Brand selector to choose the brand you want to investigate.

Select a conversation

Use the Conversation selector to view All conversations or focus on an individual conversation available within your selected dataset.

This lets you move from the overall brand view to a more focused view of performance within a particular conversation.

Select a component metric

Use the tabs to switch between:

  • Doorways

  • Sentiment

  • Owned Mentions

  • Earned Mentions

The chart updates to show the selected component over time for the chosen brand and conversation.

Conversation table

The table beneath the chart shows the conversations included in the current view alongside the selected component metric and its WoW, MoM and YoY movement.

Use this to compare conversation-level performance and identify conversations you want to investigate further.
